Amazing Movie, Although it is very strange and follows a different style of pacing than normal films (eg 20 minutes untill first words are spoken) I was completely drawn in to Kubricks pre space travel... Read more

One need only look at the documentry extras on this Bluray set to see the difference in the "old "print and this remastered Bluray disc...though the original DVD version was pretty good this Bluray... Read more
print is to say the least- ectraordinary! The colours and objects pop out at you from the screen - leaving you fully immersed in this magical exploration of space and the "future past"

Sorry, but 2 1/2?? Are you kidding? My all time fave movie ever, I still can't believe the genius and foresight of this movie made in 1968, a year before the first human moon landing. Its a stunning... Read more
achievement in movie making technology. You don't need acid to get it. If you can't understand the meaning then read the book.

Awesome movie, although I think you have to be on the same drugs the director was on, in order to make sense of the ending!!!

This is one of the rare movies that is actually perfect, in my humble opinion. I am sure many will disagree with me, which is fine. But my experience watching this movie was almost surreal. Hardly a... Read more
movie raised so many questions and none of the answers. This film blew my mind, and I think I'm going crazy after watching it. This movie is full with symbols and metaphors. I watched it several times, and I couldn't get it out of my head; the images, the meanings, the loneliness. It's unquestionably one of the greatest films of all times. But yes, not everyone likes it and the usual complaint is "long and boring." This film is not a rollercoaster, it's a meditation. The film is also divided into 4 chapters, so it is long. What keeps the film alive today is because it is so mysterious.

This is an amazing film but you have to watch out for the end that starts the beginning! (You know what I mean!) The Film is slow and it is not quirky or unsuspecting just mind blowing if you can follow... Read more
it all the way through. 2001 is similar to Space 1999 in style and a little bit like the first Alien in atmosphere without the Creepy gooey bloody stuff. It is SLOW. Let me try to explain how hard it is to watch... My name is HAL, like the computer that goes mad in 2001, it's not a common name and I fell asleep every time I watched it... that is until the third time! (Did I say that it was slow?) The reason it is slow will become clear, but you do have to watch it all! I would have put this movie as a 3 or 2 had I not persevered with it. There is no doubt that this is a Classic, always has been, always will be, but unless you watch it you'll never know why! P.S. Very Long... Did I say it was slow?

Absolutely amazing, this is the most realistic portrayal of space travel I've ever seen in a movie yet. No little green men in this picture. Can be very slow at parts though but the music is wonderful... Read more
. The story is more than anything about LIFE. You've all seen the Simpson episode with Monkey Homer and the the Obelisk now see where it all started. The story continues with a sequel SPACE ODYSSEY 2010. SCI-FI brilliance, retro styled sets and costumes. Here's some FOOD for THOUGHT - HAL, the super computer is just one letter away from IBM. Spooky don't you think :)

OK for something to watch, if you can stay awake. Slow plot, acting, rotating sets and - just plain slow all around. Quite sigh-inducing and boring in fact, in places. Movie is too long. It is also... Read more
saturated in loud music(both classical and original), which had me reaching for the remote quite a lot. Nothing is said by any cast member until you are 24 minutes into the friggin' movie! Ending VERY bizarre - what were they on? Good sequence for meth or pot heads - lots of crazy colour sequences and ugly recoloured terrain vistas. Much preferred the sequel, as they actually had a script!!! ;)

Was great up until it got weird. The ending lost me - as it does most people. Beautiful though. I'm still thinking about it ... no closure. Of course, that was the point.

I once read a review of Kubrick's 'The Shining' that described it as the first truly epic horror movie. I think '2001' is similarly the first truly epic science fiction film. Visually, the film is nothing... Read more
short of sumptious. The zero-gravity scenes are particularly effective and convincing. The only real criticism I have of the film is that it seems at points like a triumph of (admittedly gorgeous) style over susbtance.
