Life is full of surprises. Jack Nicholson not as his demonic maniacal type, but playing a henpecked, unhappily retired, fearful, angry and sad ex-insurance-middle-manager who feels his life amounts... Read more
to absolutely nothing. And he pulls it off with distinction. One feels sad for Warren Schmidt. But this is more in the nature of a still life than a movie, and that's why I didn't give it a higher rating - it's lacking a story, really. Still very much worth watching.

Well any movie with Jack Nicholson in is usually entertaining. In terms of the purest theatre sense - it is a well acted and delivered movie. In terms of the subject matter and the overall scenario... Read more
. Well ... let me just say it is a little like going to the dentist, in that the portral of a lonely man at the end of his professional days - getting used to retirement then other major tragedies in his life - is very sad and quite hard to watch ... at times. It is not becaue of bad acting, or a limp portral of charchers, quite the contrary. However ... I just found the whole subject ... well a bit of a dwoner really. Don't watch this one if you are feeling depressed as you are likely to take your own life in sympathy with Jack on this one.

Bit disappointing really. Probably my fault, as I thought this might have a few funnier moments.

I really enjoyed this movie. I never really liked Jack Nicholson when he was younger, but find that the movies he has made as an older actor are really enjoyable. I loved 'As good as it gets' and... Read more

A little slow paced for my liking but truly an interesting movie. I was riveted because i was wondering where is this leading. I thinking movie for myself and of course Jack is always an interesting character to watch.

I don't think Jack Nicholson could ever play an ordinary fellow without showing any of his signature intensity. He plays a retiring insurance agent/executive from middle America with depth and humour... Read more
, carrying the story all by himself as the other characters travel like satellites in his gravity pull. Could have done w/out seeing Kathy Bates reveal her body (albeit briefly), and the 2-sided history of Schmidt and his daughter was a bit vague. Very enjoyable film, really 3.5 stars

Jack Nicholson as usual plays a serious type of person who because of what and how he does thing, they have a funny side to them. I liked this one and I think back to some of his past movies and he is good.

Schmidt finds himself pensioned off, widowered and about to see his daughter marry a 'mistake', so he sets off to stop the marriage and find himself. Jack Nicholson has to be one of the most watchable... Read more

Enjoyed this movie, a mixture of farce and sadness, with a sharp performance from Jack Nicholson and good supporting cast. Some really funny moments, and the more sober episodes never became maudlin or over-sentimental.
