A nostalgic look at what started the whole raft of Airport movies. This one is still the best and most believable. Well cast and well directed, it is a worthwhile trip down memory lane.
The #1 novel of the year - now a motion picture!
Burt Lancaster and Dean Martin head an all-star cast in this classic disaster film from producer Ross Hunter, for which Helen Hayes received her second Oscar. On the ground, manager Mel Bakersfield (Lancaster) juggles lover Jean Seberg and wife Dana Wynter while coping with a blizzard, aided by mechanic George Kennedy (who returned in all three sequels). In the sky, Capt. Vern Demerest (Martin) must maintain control of a 707 with his pregnant stewardess girlfriend (Jacqueline Bisset), a sly stowaway (Hayes), and a bomb-toting maniac (Van Heflin) aboard. Often imitated but never equalled, this box office hit was adapted by ACADEMY AWARD winner George Seaton from the bestseller by Arthur Hailey.
