A celebration of youth, friendship, and the everlasting magic of the movies.

The story of a lifelong love affair with the movies, Cinema Paradiso tells of a young boy in a small Italian village, where the only pastime is a visit to the movies at the Cinema Paradiso. Enchanted by the flickering images, Salvatore yearns for the secret of the cinema's magic and is overjoyed when Alfredo, the projectionist, agrees to reveal the mysteries of movie-making to him. As their friendship grows, so does Salvatore. Growing older with his good friend and the movies he adores, he learns from them both how to court his first love. He also dreams of making his own films one day. When the day comes for Salvatore to leave the village, Alfredo makes him promise never to look back, just to keep moving forward. Salvatore does just this - for 30 years. Until one day, a message arrives that beckons him back home...

A very good story about a friendship between a little boy and an old projector man, which shaped his whole life. Companied with songs composed by Enrico Morricone, it is simply a masterpiece!

It's been a while since I had seen this film and it was no less a joy gain. The antics and sheer joy shown by the town while watching the movies is a treasure in itself.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. It's long so worth watching over several nights. Nothing beats an original, absorbing and heart felt story. Enjoyed equally by both sexes in our family - from the youngest at 21 to the oldest at 91.

This is my favourite movie of all time! Very moving, touching but also humourous story very evocative of it's time. Plus a great soundtrack. A must see!

This was interesting by a director in love with the cinema of the 30's and 40's. It was too slow for me and I felt the movie dragged at times

The acting of the old man cinema operator was very good and moving.

Three stars for me

I enjoyed this simple story of a village and it's people who were mad on the movies.

As time and progress took over things changed but the boy always remembered his old friend who taught him all he knew about the movies and life.
