This is a great movie. Although the subject, violence and corruption in the favela (slums) of Rio de Janeiro, should be a depressing one, this movie manages to tell the story with style and even some... Read more
humour. It still gets the message across and by the end you will have some understanding of the horrific situation that the slum dwellers face in their everyday lives.Make sure you also watch the 1 hour documentary in special features after you've watched the film. It removes any doubts that the film may have exaggerated the situation.

absolutely stunning movie. well acted, well directed - a real non sentimental non
epic look at life in the brasilian favelas. not too focused on gory violence either- which was great.

Quite astounding that people live like this. A very honest, very violent movie. Liked the way it started and ended in a full circle.

A powerful movie that I'll remember. Very violent - but thankfully not gratuitous because the movie has a good story line & the violence is an integral part of the 'setting'. Very tragic to see the 'childhood' of some!

of these poor sods had. Worth watching, but not if you're already depressed.

Oh my god. This is so raw and hard hitting. It was almost painful to watch. But the charaters and the storyline are so well developed and portrayed. A must see, but be warned, your heart will be torn again and again and again.
