This chilling story, based on true events, details the intense relationship between Sister Helen Prejean (Susan Sarandon) and Matthew Poncelet (Sean Penn) who is sentenced to Death Row after the brutal murder of two young lovers. Prejean, who becomes Poncelet's spiritual advisor through his countdown to death, could never have been more unprepared for the events that followed.

Total love-hate relationship with this movie. Fabulous acting, and a story that needs to be told if only to raise our awareness of death row and get us thinking, but very harrowing and at times disturbing. Definately worth watching.

This movie makes me ball my eyes out every time! Based on a true story - which I have since read, the movie sums up all the important parts into a well told story.
