Absolutely fantastic.
Well written and directed and shot.
Very clever.
Kept me guessing right to the end and the final shot was spine tingling...in a nice way.
I can thoroughly recommend it.

In writer/director Richard Kelly's extraordinary debut movie, it's October 1988 and small town USA is about to witness the end of the world. It's home to Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a brilliant but troubled teenager, plagued by terrifying visions which he alone knows the meaning of. With his class mate and soul mate Gretchen (Jena Malone) and a mysterious ex-teacher, nicknamed Grandma Death (Patience Cleveland), he must unravel the strange occurrences affecting his school, his home and his life before a horrifying spectre known only as "Frank" leads Donnie to the edge of his sanity...

A good weird movie, spellbinding and compelling to watch. Music was great too.
A bit slow by todays standards. left field and fairly predictable. worth seeing though laid a path for other much more intense left field movies that came later.
i really enjoyed this movie it really was not clear even in the end as to what was going on, great acting and plenty of suspense
Good movie - probably need to watch it again to fully get the end - but this is a good thing
Truly bizarre. Bit of a mind-job, but well done and well acted. Some big names that you don't expect, but still well done. A classic perhaps, but a storyline to really twist your mind. Time travel experience necessary.
A great movie. The first time I saw this I thought wow this is what genius looks like. Strange how some people just don't seem to like it at all, 99 times out of 100 it is because they "didn't get it... Read more
." Which I think is a bit sad, God forbid a movie be a little mysterious and make you think. Movies have to be spelled out in large easy to read lettering for these people to enjoy a them. The trouble is the big studios seem to be curtailing to their anti-substance preferences. Which makes this film such a rare treat. The movie is "understandable" but that is not the point, a movie should be an experience not a nutshell.Wasn't expecting what this was - a bit drawn out, but good idea with a great main actor.
My vote for the best movie ever, with brilliant cinematography, orchestration (to a fantastic 80's soundtrack), and extraordinarily clever and thought provoking plot which makes one think Richard Kelly... Read more
