a no-brainer full of action sequences and a shallow plot, and then there are _good films_ which are actually worthy of Oscars and contain all the elements of good film making."Gladiator" is one of those very few movies that fall seamlessly into both categories. Winner of Best Actor (Russell Crowe) and Best Picture in 2001, Gladiator is an epic story of a slave who rose to defy the Roman Emperor. Filled with gruesome war scenes and violence, brilliant performances by all leading cast members (outstanding acting by Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix), an in-depth plot, excellent CG sequences, and brilliant direction, this is a movie sure to live long in the memories of all those who watch it.
Anyone who has studied Shakespeare or Roman History, will realise the power of mob (the crowd) in Rome. The coliseum scenes in this movie were brilliantly shot and are a perfect example of how well good acting, directing, script, sound and special effects (when combined) can create chilling and memorable scenes.
One of the best action movies of all time and a must see title. Highly recommended!

The best film of its type ever made. Russell Crowe and Oliver Reed are great. The fight scenes are brilliantly underdone and the story line very good. Thoroughly enjoyable escapism.

As always Russell Crowe takes the role he is portraying to believable levels.
An enjoyable story, well worthwhile to revisit it.

Spectacular movie. Brilliantly cast, directed and written (although with some recycled ideas from 1964's The Fall Of The Roman Empire). Sensational musical score. A must watch.

A classic movie. the effects are just sensational even now 10 years later, the acting was very good, from both leads. And the music was beautiful

This will truely become a classic very realistic fight scenes and the ancient Rome scenes are well done ,good acting well worth the watch not for kids or the faint as there is blood galore it was about Gladiators .

This is definitely a classic for me. I have watched this movie a million times and still get emotional over it. I really need to buy the movie. Excellent watch.

What a great movie!! Now know what all the fuss was about re: Russell Crowe acting - what a powerful character he played and; did it so very well. Interesting storyline that kept you glued to your seat.
