Luc Bessons first foray into the US film market is a fantastic thriller/revenge flick that few will not enjoy. With a outstanding cast, great acting and a touching story Leon stands as one of the great... Read more
films of the 1990's.Leon (Jean Reno - Mission Impossible, Godzilla) is a loner hitman living a simple life in New York. Quiet spoken and shy he is scarily good at what he does - killing people. Into his quiet life is thrust Mathilda (a very young Natalie Portman - Star Wars 1, 2 & 3, Mars Attacks, V for Vendetta) whose family had been brutally mudered by rogue DEA agents lead by a deliciously over the top performance by Gary Oldman (Dracula, Batman Begins, The Dark KNight, Immortal Beloved, The Book of Eli). Mathida is quickly taken under Leon's wing and he begins to teach her how to be a "cleaner" so that eventually she will be able to take revenge on her families killers.
The touching interaction between Mathilda and Leon is what really makes this story special and puts it well above similar type films plus Oldmans turn as the wacked out DEA agent creates a bad guy you will never forget.

film, the real genius, is in the acting performance of Gary Oldman, whose bad guy is one of the most convincing and terrifying in movie history.

This movie is not for the faint hearted. But it has a logical storyline and good acting by the two taking the parts of Leon and Mathilda.

some great battles and excellent, well constructed violent clashes that defy imagination. All these tremendous stunts must come from very fertile imaginations and experts in the craft of battle? The... Read more
relationship between the emotionally bereft and scarred Reno and the child (barely nuptial) Portman might draw protest these days from the "freedom from slavery" camp but this movie, nevertheless, has its delicate and touching moments. Overall a must see, thoroughly enjoyable watch. Portman excels.

Great story, didn't deserve R18 rating, but captivating none the less. Would rank in my top 20 movies.
