coming war, pursuing the love of his life who is betroved to another more affluent.His comical endeavours almost hides the political changes looming in the background, as the first part of this movie brings a smile to every romantic. Without warning fortunes change and he finds himself and everyone he loves evacuated to a German labour camp.
Survival is now his only goal, and perhaps the most touching tread to this story line is how he tries to protect a four year old boy amidst the horrors of camp life.
Advice to viewers: Don't be genre specific, this story is one that will touch everyone. (even my 16 yr old gothic daughter who is into horrors)
Guys: this is not a chick flick.
Ladies: it is not an action war movie.
Others: it is not a meaningless foreign comedy.
It is an emotional rollercoaster, and even if you wouldn't normally go for this genre, sit back and enjoy the ride.

Delightful story with a leading plot, showing commitment to the real life story. Well Done for the heart felt father and son relationship.

Very entertaining and at the same time poignant with tradegy which is always threatening. Rivetting story. But you must love foreign movies and subtitles to appreciate this gem.

holocaust movie.Benigni delivers an emotional anti-war story of life and love with humor and grace, that will tug at your heart.

This film is AMAZING. I'm not one for war movies in general, but this is something else entirely. The beautifully told story will have you laughing and crying throughout. Just wonderful.

about. This is a heartbreaking story of a man who falls in love, gets the girl, marries her, has a son, and then the war/nazi's come and try to take it all away. He desperately tries to hold things together so his family can survive the holicaust.

A film of great importance from an historical and artistic viewpoint. Such a funny/sad film. When all the world goes mad, a simple man manages to hold his family together through the medium of fun. I loved this film.

I was unable to get English language superimposed over the French. It was not possible to read the English subtitles and enjoy the video action as well.

from the start to the end even as it was trying to portray a tragic event which is the point but there just wasn't much substance and it was too prolonged) as it was moving and funny at the same time. So go see it if you haven't already.
