The film tells the story of the friendship between Anne Frank and Hanneli Goslar starting in 1935.
It recounts how Hanneli and Anne met in Amsterdam at the beginning of the anti-Jewish laws, the German occupation and the disappearances of their friends and family through to their reunion in the prison camp in Bergen Belsen in 1942.
