This strange animated feature from DreamWorks animation, the company behind the ‘Shrek’ movies, has come up with a strange story for this seemingly late entry into ‘Finding Nemo’ territory. As most of the story is a spoof of ‘The Sopranos’, it seems that the target audience of children won’t get most of the humor as they have never seen the show the film is satirizing. And as the story is rather lame, it won’t have the same cross over appeal as the ‘Shrek’ movies have. So, you are left with a film that is a bit of a mess, and is only really saved by excellent voice work from Jack Black as the gay, vegetarian shark that doesn’t fit in with the other sharks. He is the only actor (others lending their voices include Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Renee Zellweger), who actually makes an effort to actually have a character. The rest just sound as they always do. The animation is bright, but the amount of product placement they have in a film set under the ocean is disgusting. One for the younger members of the family, only. They may not get the jokes, but will like the pretty and bright colors.
