An absolute must see!!! It was good to see the old characters with fresh faces. The casting director did an awesome job. I also enjoyed the small bits of cheeziness and over dramatization that the old Star Trek had.

Well, what can I say? It has certainly turned the Star Trek world around. It has stayed true to Star Trek the original, while at the same time keeping it fresh and new. It is definitely not a remake... Read more

Awesome movie heavy on effects but a good way to delve into a backstory of a popular franchise.

I am not a trekkie at all but this was good - old story with a new spin. Nice to see the beginning of the story in a time-parallel universe. Worth the watch.

A fun, action packed film with excellent re-imagined characters, great visuals and a very ST sense of humour :-) Sadly it's let down by staggering disregard/ignorance for basic logic and science - even... Read more
ST universe science.A "supernova that threatens the galaxy"? GALAXY??? Is there a giant star millions of times bigger than the largest know star out there? If so, one wonders why the rest of the galaxy wasn't pulled inside it by it's massive gravity well long ago...
And oh how convenient there's a planet of ANOTHER star system, not Vulcan's, that future Spock can watch Vulcan's destruction from... with the unaided eye. Sorry, did the Universe suddenly shrink? First a super massive supernova that threatens the galaxy, now the galaxy is so tightly compacted you can see one planet from another planet circling a totally different star?
I could go on, but you get the point. The director was either asleep in science class... all 12 years worth of lessons it would seem. Or he has no respect for the intelligence of ST fans, let alone the average viewer. Don't get me wrong - I suspend belief for 'impossible' ST technologies like the transporter all the time. I've been happily doing so since original ST. In fact a certain ability to suspend belief is required to enjoy almost every science fiction movie or TV series (let's face it - perfect quiet in outer space scenes are not real exciting for the viewer, etc, etc). But the new ST movie takes this too far. My ability to enjoy it was severely and all too frequently compromised by the utter absurdities taking place on screen. What a damn shame. Cause the acting was absolutely first rate IMO.

What a disappointment ! Bears no relationship to the original concept and cheekily cashes in on names . Characters are as hollow as a straw and about as real ----Didn't like it one little bit !!!

The strength of this movie lies not so much in its ambitious storyline (where James T Kirk & co. are living in an alternate, cooler & more digitally enhanced reality than their '60's tv show counterparts)... Read more
or its disappointing villain (Eric Bana, who looks no scarier than Billy Corgan from the Smashing Pumpkins attacked with a magic marker) but in the relationships and personalities of its main characters. While Chris Pine's portrayal of Kirk is a little one dimensional, Zachary Quinto shines as Spock, as does kiwi Karl Urban in his role as a delightfully eccentric Bones McCoy.

Star Trek at it's best. Successfully updates the franchise with an exhilarating new creation. Bravo JJ Abrams and crew. A must watch, even if you're not a fan of the franchise or sci-fi.
