I rented this knowing absolutely nothing about it. By the end I realised I was watching a remake of E.T.
No wonder Spielberg produced it.

the way. Reminiscent of The Goonies' characters and The Iron Giant's story, but with Abrams' unique stylistic tone and impressive use of explosions. Recommended.

formulaic - sort of a conglomoration of classics (possibly 'ET', 'Stand By Me' and 'Aliens'). Nothing was a surprise, and all the characters felt like caricatures with no depth whatsoever. Some funny moments and some action, but just seen it all before.

A good movie that is just a little too reminiscent of other 'alien on earth' movies to be a classic.

great movie tho kinda left me feeling a bit ripped off at the end with the building up of everything for 4/5s of the movie then all the loose ends tied up in the last 10minutes! But a great watch kept me intrigued the whole way thru

real delight to watch, and it kept you hooked to the end. And I agree with another review which said it has resemblances to "ET". A pleasure to watch and it is good to see that Spielberg had not lost his magic touch.
