Good God. This movie fell short in so many ways, I cannot begin to describe. It was such a task sitting through it. The plot was annoyingly boring and the characters so unbelievably pathetic and especially... Read more the main character - what an annoying kid! This movie aimed too high, and fell far too short. Give it a miss!
Another entry in the"nobody understands how hard it is being a sensitive, middle class, suburban white boy" sub-genre. Some good acting by the young cast, Jamie Bell in particular, but Chumscrubber... Read more is yet another movie that tries to up its indie film cred by portraying everyone in the suburbs as over-medicated, self-absorbed caricatures - see also American Beauty, Thumbsucker, et al. Waaaaay to slow and self-serious for teen audiences, Chumscrubber is a calculated attempt to appeal to a particular type of art-house crowd, with nothing new or profound to say about being a teenager.
silly movie with an extremely weak plot line. trying extremely hard to be a suburban drama/comedy but not pulling it off at all. a real disappointment . stupid plot involving a teenage kidnapping, depressed... Read more housewives and pill popper, was left thinking when this is all over
An easy watch drama movie. Deals with typical teenage events - suicide and drugs. An original plot - but I think it was trying to be too much like American Beauty - but lacking the "X" factor. A good watch nonetheless.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. I watched it on one of those cold afternoons when you're bored, and anything you can think of doing seems boring too, I put The Chumscrubber on, not... Read more expecting to really watch it, but from the beginning, the tense atmosphere created by director Arie Posin held my interest. The feeling and plot of this movie is somewhere between Donnie Darko and Brick; teenage angst, drugs and the myth of suburban perfection are the main themes. Aimed at being a black comedy, The Chumscrubber has only a few comedic moments that I could sense, but tension it had by the bucket load. This film wasn't a head scratcher, there were no deep "I'll have to watch it again to get that bit" moments, but it will definitely keep you watching for all 108min.Oh, and if you feel you recognise the lead character, it's Jamie Bell, the kid who played Billy Elliot, but don't hold that against him.
What a fantastic movie. After seeing this we have been recommending it to all our friends. The storyline and characters are brilliant. It's the type of movie once you see you want to re-watch it. I... Read more would say it was a cross between Donnie Darko and Edward Scissorhands.
A film with many layers and well built up characters, this movie has many depths and is well worth the watch.
Certainly a little different. An oddball movie but it kept me interested and entertained.
How do you fit in and where is the underlying thoughts. Interesting teen behaviour that develops through this story.
My teenagers watched this one. Weren't really that impressed but it wasn't what they thought it was going to be. Bit of a dull story line and very slow story. Cheesy.
