A very complex and compelling story that keeps you on your toes, with a twist at the end that will surprise most.
A well told tale and twists and turns toward an end that will keep you guessing as to the full and final truth. Well acted and thought provoking, though not at all convincing if the point was to raise... Read more awareness in support of abolishing the death penalty. In it's own right, as a well-told "who done it" designed to keep you guessing at the truth, it is well worth the watch.
Great plot, kept us guessing to the end. Kevin Spacey as always is fantastic. Seial killers not usually our style, but this is definitely worth a look.
Really enjoyed this movie, it was an interesting story that I knew nothing about prior to watching, just saw it because I think Kate Winslett is a brilliant actress. This is a good dramatic story with... Read more a bit of nudity and bad language but a good watch if your into drama and crime scene investigation stuff.
I found the plot pretty obvious. The movie attempts to show how the American system of justice can fail and in the process convict an innocent man, but fails to do a convincing job of this. What is... Read more does do is show that this system can only fail if an entire spectrum of people, including the defendant and his attorney, conspire to do everything possible to jeopardise their own case.
But it’s not all bad. Despite the failed logic of this group, the acting is superb, and Kevin Spacey’s portrayal of David gale is excellent. Notwithstanding the fact that I already knew the plot, this movie had me fixed to my chair the entire 2 hours. I would definitely recommend it.
My wife and I spent around an hour after the movie trying to review all the bits of the story to put the pieces together. This to us is the sign of an extremely good movie - that the discussion afterwards... Read more only makes you want to see it again to check what you think you saw was the case. It's brilliantly written and performed by the amazing Kevin Spacey. A rare and stunning film that is for those that enjoy having their mind teased while they uncover and immensely important social issue. See it!
We really enjoyed this movie and had a great discussion afterwards to determine the true motives for what transpired - even going back into the film to see. Brilliant acting and interesting to see the... Read more baying of the crowd when they really don't know the full story. It certainly promoted discussion in our house regarding the morals of the death penalty. Well worth seeing.
One of the best you'll ever see. The ending is totally unexpected. Kevin Spacey is an absolute knockout (as he usually is)
Great movie. Some pretty unpleasant bits near the end, but all in all a very good watch. it certainly had us speculating, thinking we knew what happened and then WOW, didn't see that coming. I would and have recommended it
This is an anti capital punishment movie. Unfortunately, the script lays it on with a trowel and consequently the characters, their motives and actions suffer in believability. Kate Winslet looks decidedly... Read more uncomfortable in her role of crusading journalist. Kevin Spacey and Laura Linney hold the whole thing together but even they struggle with at times plodding lines. The conclusion left a faintly unpleasant aftertaste with me. I felt like a good opportunity for an intelligent movie had been wasted.
