I enjoyed this film very much and didn't become bored, I felt the ending was a little weak, but overall entertaining.

Fair; the faults lying with Greene's tepid, sluggish source material rather than the production itself. Caine is solid as usual & as in Gods & Monsters, Fraser acquits himself surprisingly well outside his usual braindead ouvre. Watchable.

Wonderful adaptation of Graham Greene's novel about early American involvement in Vietnam. Its shot in Vietnam with great footage of HCM City (Saigon), the atmosphere is superb. Fantastic performance from Michael Caine.

This was disappointing, although I would love to see the original in order to compare the two. I found it very slow and the acting was rather stunted.

Superb Michael Cane movie, one of his best! This is a very real down to earth view of the Vietnam War. The characters involved are perfect for the parts that they need to portrait. Very good adaptation... Read more
of a very good book. Would watch again but because it was a book first it gets a 4 not a 5.

Excellent acting by Michael Caine in a well told story of the start of the Vietnam War. Well worth a look.

A great film set in the pre-American Vietnam war era with a decent twist. Michael Caine and Brendon Fraser deliver excellent performances as two men vying for the affections of a local Vietnamese woman... Read more
. Although it looks like a romance film on the outside it also provides an excellent insight into early U.S. involvement in communist-era Vietnam. May seem a little slow going at first but it picks up a lot more in the second half.

Watched this on a Sunday night when feeling a bit tired, which probably wasn't the best idea. The movie itself is enjoyable, but it just didn't blow me away.

indictment about war and its innocent victims. The whole love triangle left me a bit cold, and as that is really the central theme, would explain why I gave it 3 stars. I haven't read the book its based on, but it was pretty obvious early on who the bad guy was, and how/why he would meet his end.
The DVD extra re the history of Vietnam, was fascinating, so if you rent this movie, make sure to take time to watch this.
All-in-all it's an enjoyable movie which is worth watching.
