Widowed professor Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins) discovers an immigrant couple, Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira), squatting in his Manhattan flat and becomes wrapped up in their lives when Tarek is thrown into a detention center. A wonderful Hiam Abbass co-stars as Tarek's mother, who forges an unlikely connection with Walter. Director Thomas McCarthy's follow-up to his indie hit The Station Agent was nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards.

Well acted and realistic. Gives one an understanding of what it could be like to be an illegal immigrant.

Excellent movie. Slow but really made you stop and think about life and not stopping yourself from experiencing or enjoying things.

It's good to see a movie like this. If you like a movie that develops people's characters then you have to see this. A simple story line that grabs you very early on and has you caring about the outcome.

Really enjoyed this movie. Bit of a tearful ending, but renews faith in humanity. Complete strangers extending the hand of friendship, an intense friendship develops only to be dashed by red tape and bureacracy!

Slow burning, charming, understated and worth the watch. Can't say much more without spoiling the story. Don't watch the trailer as it gives away to much. This is the kind of indy film that Americans can make.

This is a fantastic Indie film. Wonderful characters and acting. No Hollywood style endings, just a look at life.

I enjoyed this as much, if not more, than The Station Agent. Look forward to more from Thomas mcCarthy.
