Maurice and Ian are successful but ageing actors, close friends whose conversation revolves around theatrical shop talk and the infirmities of septuagenarianism. Ian in particular is fearful that death is right around the corner, so he agrees to let his niece's daughter Jessie move in to his flat to care for him. Jessie, a provincial girl in her early twenties, turns out to be a nightmare for Ian, a hard-drinking, rude, and dismissive twerp. But Maurice sees something else in the girl, a potential for humanity which blossoms under his kindness and gentle guidance. Something else blossoms, for Maurice, as well: romantic love for a girl fifty years younger. Surprises follow, all around.

A fabulous performance from Peter O'Toole, and delightful dialogue especially between the two old men. The relationship between the two main characters left me feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Jessie is a monster when we first meet her, a marvel at the end. Jodie Whitaker's... Read more

This is a really good movie with a tour de force by Peter O'Toole. The script writing is top notch with the old boys getting some fantastic lines. Definitely a more than one watch movie.

dry story line, well acted, but rather boring. two nutty old men at the end of their life, and a sad teenager at the beginning of her life, all are lost and lonely .

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Wonderful acting all round.

I found the subject matter a little creepy to be honest so this one made me cringe. Not the greatest portrayal of growing old.

The acting , particularly that of Peter O'Toole, is great but the story line is weak (and rather kinky). Good for abit of rehash afterwards

A movie of two halves. The first is funny and playful, the second, grim and realistic. Overall, worth a look for Peter O'Toole's performance.

Different and compelling to watch. Acting great. Would appeal to older people like myself.

I found this movie to be clever but disturbing. Peter O'Toole plays a great part as an old man who 'falls in love' with a younger woman, who then uses him for money etc. O'Toole's part is creepy and... Read more
