An enjoyable movie with a glimpse of life in communist Russia during the Stalin era. Highly recommended - 5 star, not one as indicated!
Worth watching for the terrific performance by Emily Watson alone.
In fairness, I probably did not give this movie a chance to really get going. I became bored very quickly. This could be because I had just finished watching "The Emperor" and a couple of other period... Read more dramas. By comparison, this just did not cut it for me. Nothing grabbed hold of me, and so I gave up after a very short time.
Very good movie based on fact. I enjoy wartime movies.
A confronting movie with enough optimism to avoid being depressing. I highly recommend.
Excellent movie, as said before a real insight into communist Russia. The life these people endured amazes me.Casting was good abd I would highly recommend this movie
Excellent movie, very well done. And being a true story makes it even more gripping.
Poignant, captures the hardships wantonly created by despotic government and the resilience of the Human Heart. Conveys the momentary nature of life and what it means to be present to the moment. Well... Read more acted and beautifully filmed in the tradition story format I enjoy of beginning, middle and end, a delightful and welcome surprise. A true story, played out in this case against the backdrop of Stalinist Russia. This movie encapsulates meaningfulness at a time when this aspect is so often forgotten or ignored by the movie makers. Refreshing within the traditions of story telling.
